Dearg Irish Red

For the 2019 Learn to Homebrew Day, I packed up my equipment and traveled to my friend Du's house.

The last time I brewed at someone else's house, I decided that the next time I would try an extract batch so that I wouldn't have to bring as much. More importantly, I would not have to clean up as much while "on the road".

So, I basically took Jamil's Irish Red recipe from Brewing Classic Styles and changed it into something that made sense to me.

It appears that the 2015 style guidelines for Irish Red are significantly different than the 2008 version that Jamil had designed his beer towards. Plus, I thought I'd go with fuggle hops ... because I wanted to ...

I decided to brew it as a lager just because I could.

It came out a nice sessionable, drinkable beer. Really nice balance of caramel and roast.
