07/21/2014 esheppy
Brewed yesterday. Went pretty well. My mash temp was high, but that is probably ok. Collected more wort than usual, so I boiled a bit longer. Used hop sack for the 5 minute hop addition. Pitched at 62. Up to 65ish this morning. Nice kraussen started. Put in blow-off tube just in case.
07/22/2014 esheppy
Still going. 66F. Have not needed the blow-off tube yet.
07/23/2014 esheppy
Hot, heavy fermentation over 72.
07/24/2014 esheppy
Took a sample. 1.010 gravity puts this beer at 5.2 ABV. Nice malt. More bitter than last time. Not sure it is really more hoppy, though. I think this is becoming more of an APA than a blonde.
07/26/2014 esheppy
Moved into secondary so that I would have the bigger carboy available for tomorrow's brew. Nice guild color. Petty clear. Wonderful malt and hops. ABV still the same (5.2)
08/06/2014 esheppy
Kegged tonight. Still 5.2ABV. Crystal clear. Hoppiest Laser Salt ever. Love it. Also filled a growler with some priming sugar.
Really more APA-like than a blonde. Brought up 3 growlers to Breckenridge for our "Gretchen" to try. She claims to have liked it. She sure did drink a lot. Tastes awesome to me too.

04/27/2014 esheppy
Brew day today went great.
04/30/2014 esheppy
Fermentation started in the 50s. Has been at about 60 until today. Now, 64. Getting more active.
05/02/2014 esheppy
Been as high as 72. This morning down to 68. Slowing down, but still bubbling. Still pretty hazy. delete
05/03/2014 esheppy
Put in secondary to make room for tomorrow's Blackhawk Black. 1.012 gravity puts the beer at 5% abv. Will probably drop another couple of points over the next week. Still hazy, but tastes wonderful. delete
06/08/2014 esheppy
Checking carbonation level. Seems pretty good, although I think I will pressurize keg again. delete

05/11/2013 esheppy
Brewed this up today. Was not paying attention and ended up overfilling a pot during one of the sparges. Didn't seem to lose a whole lot according to my pre-boil gravity, but I added 2oz DME to compensate. Ended up with 5.25 gallons wort at 1.051OG. Pitched around 64.
05/12/2013 esheppy
Going strong. 64.
05/14/2013 esheppy
Flocculating HARD. Looks like the result will be very clear. 70F.
05/14/2013 esheppy
Gravity already down to 1.012. I think the sample tastes fantastic. Just the right amount of oat flavor and nice floral hop character.
05/30/2013 esheppy
Kegged tonight. FG down 1.010. Extremely clear. Great flavor. Carbing. Will drink next weekend.
06/18/2013 esheppy
Took camping at the dunes. Keg was empty by Sunday.

08/26/2012 esheppy
Brewing this up. Got the mash done and pot filled before church. Pre-boil gravity was a bit low, so I added 4oz of DME during the boil.
08/27/2012 esheppy
Fermentation took off early, and temp was up to 64ish. Put a couple ice jugs in place. Based on my notes from last time, I think this is the last time I'll attempt to cool. delete

Took a sample. 1.008 FG. Flavor is absolutely perfect. According to the calendar, I am scheduled to bottle this batch this coming weekend.
09/08/2012 Bottled
I bottled today. About 2 cups water with 4.25oz sugar into a keg. Used beer gun. Had just enough bottle caps. My CO2 tank is empty. Think I used too much to purge my sour mash. Sample of this beer was yummy. Got 29 12oz bottles, 7 bombers, 2 liters, and my European growler. delete

Had a few. Very good.

05/05/2012 Brew Day esheppy
The Beer Model and I brewed this up. I think I used too much water for my protein rest. Ended up boiling for an extra 40 minutes or so to make up for the extra wort. Other than that, things went well. We went out and got some Clarity Ferm, so "Gretchen" will be able to try this in a couple of weeks.
05/07/2012 esheppy
Fermentor is bubbling away. Was up to 70 this morning so I put ice in. Probably should have just left it.
05/08/2012 esheppy
Active fermentation seems to be done. Hope the ice was not a mistake.
05/12/2012 esheppy
Took a gravity sample today. The FG of 1.008 puts this beer at exactly 5% ABV with 82% ADF. Nice malty flavor with some floral hop taste. Not a ton of body. Tastes like it will be a nice refreshing session beer. Perfect for the camping trip.
05/19/2012 esheppy
Kegged it up today. Also harvested the yeast. Didn't take another gravity reading, so I'm going with the last one. Also didn't taste it. Not sure if our first taste will be with everyone else or if we will try it before we go camping.
05/31/2012 esheppy
Tried some. Very good. Just enough of the flowery crystal hops to let you know there are hops. The rich malt flavor is crisp and clean and very nice. I think this is going to be a hit.
06/05/2012 esheppy
Took camping this past weekend. Gretchen was there and another lady who has a worse gluten sensitivity. Both enjoyed the beer, and reported no evil side effects. The new lady told me she had not had a beer in years until mine and was pretty excited about the whole thing.
06/05/2012 esheppy
By the way, the keg is now gone.
